Our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging (DEIAB)At AAWGT, we believe that a strong, thriving community is built through respect, partnership and the celebration of every individual’s dignity and worth. We know that DEIAB is an ongoing journey — not a destination — and we are committed to learning, evolving and working together to build a truly inclusive and equitable organization. DEIAB frameworkDiversityWe appreciate the broad spectrum of visible and invisible human differences—across race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, age, abilities, income, beliefs, perspectives, education, geography and lived experience — and seek to recognize the strength that differences bring to our work. EquityWe strive to ensure that every person receives the resources and support they need to fully participate and thrive within our organization. We are committed to identifying and removing systemic and structural barriers that prevent equitable opportunities and outcomes. InclusionWe seek to intentionally create a welcoming environment for all who engage with us. We are committed to listening to and working alongside the valuable voices of our members, grantee partners, and the women and families in Anne Arundel County to shape our programs and our collective vision for community impact. AccessWe work to ensure that our programs, communications and opportunities be physically, linguistically and financially accessible, meeting people where they are and honoring the diversity of our community. BelongingWe foster a culture where everyone feels an authentic sense of connection and acceptance, and ultimately a sense of belonging. We recognize that belonging is built together through shared trust, ongoing learning and mutual accountability within our membership and with the community we serve. Did you know?February marks the 100th anniversary of Black History Month. The precursor to this important commemoration began in 1926 when historian Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History established Negro History Week. Chosen for the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, the second week of February honored their lasting impact and laid the groundwork for today’s observation. Get involvedDEIAB CommitteeOur DEIAB Committee strives to foster a culture within AAWGT in which all individuals feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and abilities. The framework above expresses the values that we believe can help guide AAWGT and how we function. By doing so, we will together build a stronger, more innovative and collaborative organization. The Committee meets monthly, and we invite all interested AAWGT members to join us. We welcome your voice and participation! Please email us at deiab@givingtogether.org. Equity Study GroupOur Equity Study Group celebrates and learns about the various cultures in our county and region. We host quarterly discussions and guest speakers on Zoom meetings and tour museums and historic sites several times annually. If you wish to be added to the distribution list for announcements and scheduled events, or for more information, email Sharon Boettinger. Also, be sure to watch the recording of our Equity Study Group speaker, AAWGT member and Maryland State Senator Shaneka Henson. Her topic was “Journey to Leadership,” and included a discussion of new and pending legislation impacting women and families. |
